ABOUT ME

Hi! I am Katie Christianson and I am excited you have found me. Life can be messy, but you don’t have to go at it alone. This is where I come in. I started my journey working in mental health many years ago because I really love teaming up with people to help them heal up and live their best life. I have a deep passion for supporting people while they overcome life’s difficulties. This includes helping individuals heal from their emotional wounds, reestablish meaningful relationships and grow as a person.

When I am not in the office, I am goofing around in Middle Earth, digging and hiding in a hole in Minecraft and all-around being a nerd. Gaming is an important part of my mental health and can be for many people. I love incorporating gaming and creativity in my sessions with patients. I enjoy artistic outlets such as painting, drawing, photography and watching Netflix (it totally counts). Lastly, I enjoy improving and leveling up in my skills as a counselor through too many books and trainings.

THERAPEUTIC APPROACHES AND INTERESTS:

Person-centered therapy, trauma-informed approach, cognitive behavioral therapy, holistic (mind/body connection), 12-step work (addiction), anxiety reduction, improving social skills and finding the elusive work/life balance.

EDUCATION

My educational background includes a Master of Science degree in clinical mental health counseling in 2020 and a Bachelor of Science degree in community psychology in 2014 from St. Cloud State University. Before entering into a career in counseling, I had several years of experience working in community mental health, working with clients with severe and persistent mental illness.

WORK EXPERIENCE

I worked for 4.5 years as a crisis response team member for the Four County Crisis Response Team. This work included crisis phone counselling, mobile crisis response and residential crisis treatment. I enjoyed meeting a wide range of people with many different situations and mental health concerns. I also have experience working in intensive residential treatment services (IRTS). Through this work, I supported people in creating the life they want to live through psycho-education on healthy living skills and counselling.
