I grew up in the Twin Cities and went to college in Duluth, MN. My wife and I have been married for more than 20 years and have been blessed with 5 children. I have lived in the Fairmont area since 2004. A few of the activities that I enjoy are attending church, camping, fishing, hockey, playing/listening to music and volunteering/service work.

EDUCATION

St. Thomas Academy JROTC High School, Mendota Heights, MN
Bachelor of Arts degree in social work from the College of St. Scholastica, Duluth, MN
Master of Arts degree in social work from the University of Minnesota-Duluth, Duluth, MN

WORK EXPERIENCE

My life experience has blessed me with the opportunity to work in a variety of environments with many different client groups. Straight out of college, my wife and I ran a group home that served four individuals with developmental disabilities in the Twin Cities. Next, my family and I moved to Fairmont and I worked as a school social worker at the Lincoln School Day Treatment facility. The following six years rewarded me with the opportunity to work as a medical social worker at United Hospital District in Blue Earth, MN. This placement afforded me experience of discharge planning, working with home health and hospice patients and their families, organizing volunteers, conducting grief counseling and networking with community organizations. My most recent work experience before joining Eunoia Family Resource Center in 2016 was as a mental health therapist at Elmore Academy, working with young men and their families. As evidenced by my work experience, I am open to and passionate about serving children, teenagers/young adults, adults/parents, individuals, groups and those in grief/mourning.

THERAPEUTIC PHILOSOPHY

I consider myself to be a Christian-based provider, as these beliefs shape my worldview and guidance to myself and others. I use a client-centered, strengths/goal-centered perspective that looks to answer the “why” questions of life for the individual or family. Research about happiness demonstrates that happiness can be found when people choose virtues to live for and seek to plan those virtues into their lives. I believe that spirituality (asking why) is a cornerstone to finding the plan to happiness and well-being for us as individuals and as a society. While I am especially interested in serving client populations in the areas of parenting and family issues, I am open to all client populations, regardless of religion or faith beliefs.
